OK... To all you nay-sayers that tell people, "no, don't change the seer spring!" I say "bah". In another thread on trigger mods the question was asked about this pen spring mod. People seem to think that this mod is to replace the trigger spring (that little spring on the tip of the trigger). It is not! Here is what you need to do to make your mech Tippmann 98 Custom rock as fast as some electros.

That's the inside of my Tippmann. First thing we do on this job is to remove the trigger spring entirely. Put this somewhere where you can find it later. You never know what you will want the spring for down the road, but you should always keep spare parts around.

Next take a clicky pen and steal the spring from it. Here's what you're gonna do with it... replace the seer spring with it. Here's how you do that - put the hammer in place, at the uncocked position, like in the picture. Then swap springs and stretch out the pen spring(PS) so that it is still strong enough to keep the seer in the ready position, like in the picture. If you have it too light the seer will not catch, and the gun will go full auto - which would be bad... You know you have it when you can cock the gun and the seer catches on the hammer every time.

Next thing we will do is to thicken that short spring circled in red above. This allows for the seer to minimaly engage the hammer. If you only have 1mm of seer touching hammer... that's right - you have a 1mm trigger pull! Here's where the patience comes in. Like me, you will prob not get it right the first time. Keep trying. If you shorten it too much than you will have a gun that wants to go full auto. Best thing I could tell you is to use some speaker wire, and wrap it around the short pin to fatten it up. If you do this to your gun, it will be super fast. I know that I had to get an evolution to keep up with the trigger job. Hope you all enjoy - Layman

edit- My gun is over a year old, and the wear tp the hammer over time is so insignificant that it will not bother your shooting. Also save all your old springs!

Good job. I have heard little bits of these modifications over the forum,
but this really describes them all in detail. Thanks!

Thank you so freaking much man.....I've been wanting to do something with my sear spring for so long but have been worried that it would cause my gun to uncock or go full auto.....I also salute you.....

Just remember that you have to get it tight enough to pull it back in place. Too light and you will double fire, and go f/a.

before you know it every junk mod ever dreamed up will be stickied.

Your spreading a lot of force into a very small area of the sear, I predict your sear and bolt will be quickly hammered into obivion and not catch anymore.

Thanks... that was kinda rude. Have you ever tried to drill/grind the metal Tippmann uses on the seer? They can't be hurt. I can only assume that's what hardened steel is. You will not get a drill bit through it, so you should not worry about it. Worst case scenario though - it doesn't catch, you remove the modded pin, and get it back to normal.

Have you ever worked on the sear of a real Gun? The size of the land, the angles, everything has to be just right or disaster happens. I had a 45 go full auto on me because the sear spring was too light. No, I don't care how rude you perceive my comments. Messing with the sear and spring is a no-no. I don't want to see every pen spring and duct tape mod ever dreamed up by non technician lookin peoples, that don't know what a screwdriver is, being stickied.
The super hard sear will shatter and chip. the bolt is not super hard, soon it will be rounded off and the sear chewed up and will not work.

POLISH the sear, and polish the catch on the bolt. That's how you you do a real trigger job. use progressively finer stones and finilly a polishing wheel. Put a mirror finish on the metal to metal surface. Be careful not to change the angles or the depth of the land the sear catches. Oh, sorry I forgot.... the screwdriver is the long slender.......

I've seen the way that an A-5 is setup, and this should work for it also. If you have an E-Grip, look in the "Uber" sticky. InvestorGuy did a great job with the E-Grip mod.

What does this have to do with a paintball gun?

Before I stickied it I went and got approval from the "Sticky Czar". Also, thanks for the flattery!

I have had this on for about a year now. When is soon? Also, (I am serious about this because I was not trained in metallurgy) - how will a soft malleable piece of metal (hammer) shatter a super hard metal (sear)?

There's a joke in here... the strike isn't worth it though.

In short if you want to have a discussion instead of try and belittle me, please PM me.
