So, one of my long-time friends who has dicked me over more than a few times (like flaking out of our lease 6 months into it) seems to just have all the luck.

Now, his biggest windfall of all just hit. He worked for a decently sized network security company called Sourcefire. When he started, his employee stock purchase plan strike price was $16/share. Which means he's been able to buy as much stock as he can for $16 for several years now regardless of the market price. Nice huh? Stock usually sat around $40-$50 per share.

Then this happened

He's going to bring in more than a quarter of a million dollars in one go.... jerk.....

<Removed overly wide sig. Tsk, you know better.>

I find that dumb luck and lack of integrity have an oddly beneficial relationship to one another.

I have a buddy who, despite being a good friend to me personally, would sail his own mother up a creek if he thought it would get him laid or promoted. The dude has absolutely no loyal friends or even friendly acquaintances outside of myself and yet gets the most insane lucky calls of anyone I know. Through my two big unemployment spots of my life since I was 15 (three years ago and this very moment) he's gotten nothing but promotions and bizarre cash finds.

For instance-we got bored so he decided that (since I'm broke as hell) he'd pay our way to head across the border into Oklahoma and hit up casinos. Bear in mind this guy has all the street smarts of a choir boy-I told him several times to give himself a limit and then we'd just go sight seeing or something.

What does this guy do? Wins 600 bucks on slot machines. Even my brother who spent a lot of time working in casinos couldn't believe it.

Not begrudging him his good fortune of course, but after a long lifetime of these events you can't help but kick the dirt a little when they tell you about them

He has screwed you over multiple times, and you are still his friend? Confused

I hope both people mentioned have a humbling experience that changes their attitude and output of life. It might not happen until the vary end when their trophy gold digging wife leaves and it's only them left in hospice. Or when they have a gun in their mouth.

The best things in life aren't things.

That's quite the chunk of change. If he's that big of a jerk maybe he'll mismanage it and lose it all like most people do when they acquire large sums of money.

I know how you feel.
My roomate also works with me and is one lazy sun of a gun. Yet he gets to go on business trips all ovrer the country. I'm told it's because they "can't afford to have me out" for weeks at a time.
So much for hard work paying off... More like it gets you stuck in a position.

A friend of mine just shared a story on this topic today.

His sister is in her mid 40's.  She has never held a job longer than it takes to claim disability.  Her only paychecks throughout her life have been from the government.  She pumped out 4 kids, one which as given up for adoption and the other 3 raised by her father.  She has been in jail multiple times with felony convictions for fraud, identity theft, etc.  The only thing she actively did was suck up to her great uncle, and apparently did a pretty good job of it.  He died about a year ago and his estate was just recently settled.  She got millions while her father, who actually cared for the old guy when he was sick and dying, and everyone else in the family got nothing.
