Thankfully not the same bike. They crumpled my 10 speed, and the single speed project is still safe in my apartment. I appreciate the advice, I seriously have no idea how these kind of things work yet.

Go fixed! Just keep at least one (front) brake. And you may want to get a bit of practice before taking it into traffic.
