Duke our oldest Basset has arthritis in his hind quarters, when he is warm he romps and gallumps but when he is cold he drags his rear legs more than walks.
Last night took a pair of old socks, cut them to size, fittied them to Duke, took a sheet strap and went over his back, suspenders for the socks, sewed some leather where he would drag, and wala no drag sores, and he has no problem wearing them. There is a market for this, there are 'drag bags' for arthritic and paralyzed dogs where hind quarters are in a 'bag' that you got to clean out when nature calls, but now we got chaps for dogs, or momma may design a 'pant' open in all the appropiate areas. Maybe we can start a bussiness in stylish pants and drag chaps for arthritic and paralyzed dogs. Duke has had this problem for years, winters are hard on him, but in warm weather he is fine. Yesterday he and Roscoe were rompin the yard, Duke in his wheelchair, and Roscoe bounding around him. They had a blast, this am found em both on the futon in the rec-room sleepin. Duke got up there on his own during the night, and Roscoe bounds up there all the time. Normally Duke is a floor pad make a nest from and old blanket sleeper, allways has been, now it looks like he and Roscoe are now futon sleepers. Also going to make a lightweight 'racing' wheelchair for Duke out of PVC, his steel one is heavy and now that he has a play buddy see him wanting to run more than saunter around the yard. |
