So today I found out I passed my national boards to become a certified Physician Assistant (PA-C). The past 5 years have been rough but so completely worth it. I couldn't be happier right now and wanted to share. Now, to find a good job. Suggestions for locations?!

Reminder: don't get sick anywhere near sinisterNorth.....

Seriously though, congrats! That's a major accomplishment! Just remember to have some patience with guys like me who come into the ER and know exactly what they have and what they need. My last experience like that with a PA was pretty good. She said "What seems to be the problem?" I proceeded to inform her that I had Acute Gastroenteritis from either Rotovirus, or more likely Norovirus, had been throwing up and having diarrhea for 9 straight hours, was dehydrated, nauseous, and slipping in and out of lucidity and that I needed IV fluids & anti-nausea medication and a whole pile of warm blankets because I'd start shivering about 5 minutes after the IV started. She laughed, looked at the nurse and said "What he said, 2L of saline, Zofran, and throw in some pepcid." Then she turned to me and said "I take it you've had this issue before?" I replied that yes, I've had it before, but never so bad, and told her to call the California Tortilla down in Potomac and tell them to quit being dirty bastards and wash their freakin hands properly, which elicited a pretty good laugh.

So, be like her, and not the sourpusses I've dealt with in the past who want to second guess me all the time. One of them had a surgeon ready to rip out my appendix even though it was obviously acute gastritis.

^ I've found throughout my training that guys like you tend to be the most helpful. There are those who think they know what is going on, but it is blatantly obvious they do not. I'm looking forward to finally being able to help people out for a change.

Shigella is the only one that comes to mind (fecal-oral route), but doesn't typically present with vomiting. The answer: 1-6 days.
