So every year our village has a community wide garage sale. It starts on Thursday and lasts until Sunday I beleive. During this time there are umpteen garage sales throughout the village with eager beaver pro hunters out enforce. Where we used to live was right in the thick of it as we were on one of the main thorougfares. However, when we moved last year we ended up on a cul de sac where there is our house and two others. None of us is having a garage sale, yet I am watching the endless stream of cars drive down our road hit the turn around and drive back by. Even when cars see people turning around with the lost looks on their faces because they didnt find a table full of old underwear and baby clothes to fondle through, they still drive down. It convinces me that garage sailors are among the dumbest of the dumb. I don't know what it is that annoys me so much about it, but I swear I am tempted to put up a 4x8 sign at the corner stating that there is no reason to drive down this road as there are no lost treasures to haggle over and no my fricking grill that I have temporarily sitting just outside my garage is not for sale!

No wonder I usually try as hard as I can to make sure I am out of town this weekend every year.

/rant.

TL/DR: I'm a grumpy middle aged man that hates people who frequent garage sales.

I thought that was deliberate. I liked it.

We have a club here that is called The Garage and because of the heavier metal music played along with it's slightly limp wristed clientel it is pronounced "the gayrage"

dont know why I felt the need for that little ditty, I just couldn't get it out my head. Damn garage sailors.

I like garage sales. For every 5 garage sales, there is one with something interesting for a decent price. A lot of the time I look for beer steins.

I think my favorite garage sale find was the program from the first Devils game.

I actually blame my first brush with the law on a "garage sale" (The closest we have here are car boot sales. No cars or boots for sale)

I was about 13 and our school had an annual car boot sale.  It actually had been a laugh the last few years because all my friends got dragged along by their parents as well so we could just muck about while the parents talked about mortgages or something.
So anyway, We had only gone because my dad was looking for a new power sander and thought he could get one on the cheap. So he must have spotted one and thought somebody had their eye on it. It was my mate Jamal's mum and he was right, she did have her eye on it. I was about 10 feet away from her/the sander so he shouted over to me with the kind of urgency and fury that a child just cant ignore from his father.

He shouted "Richard!! Go get that black and decker!!!!"

Next thing, my dad's been arrested and I'm a "racist"

I love garage/yard sales. A lot. I don't know why, but I really do.

Going to them, that is. Hosting them stinks.

A buddy and I were tooling about the neighborhood on our longboards when we happened upon a garage sale. We stopped to see what there was, leaving our boards in the yard. A few minutes later, I see some lady and the proprietor of the sale negotiating a price on our boards! The conversation was pretty much as follows: "How much for these?" "Hm, I haven't seen those before. $5 each." Let's just say there was palm-to-face contact...

I'd like garage sales a lot more if I could be bothered to get up early enough to beat the old people to them.

I wish there were more of those sales around here.

While 99.9999% of them are crap, you can always pick up some obscure tool that someone doesn't need anymore.

I usually find that what the old people are looking for varies so much from what I'm looking for that we rarely overlap.

Except maybe paperbacks.
