Topic: Key ring/EDC toolsPosted: 20 March 2012 at 4:23pm |

During the last few years, I started carrying a few tools on me and I find it nice when I have the tool I need on me at the time. Thing is, my Key ring tool broke on me and I am looking to replace it. I used to carry this:
![]() Anyone know of anything similar? I carry my Kershaw Leek (knife), a small button flashlight, and a bottle opener anyway so I do not need those. What I need in a tool is a decent phillips head screwdriver, flathead screwdriver, nail file, and nail cleaner since that is what I used my utili key for. I would like to add a set of tweezers to the mix too, but I want one tool and those Swiss Army Knifes are junky and I dont want a leatherman. I could just buy another Utili-Key, but upgrading is nice.

Victorinox Swiss-army knives are not junky. I'd suggest a multi-tool if you need stuff like that often. The Gerbers deploy a lot more quickly than a Leatherman.

heh, i bought someone a utili-key and I found it quite dangerous. The "blade" on it seemed to end up being the handle for most of the other things.

I have a mini-pleatherman (not genuine leatherman), it's about the size of a memory stick, has come in handy many times.

What would be a typical scenario in which you would use this kind of tool?

PCF: There are two, one with a knife and one without. I have/had the one without a knife.
Lightning bolt: I used my old one for a nail cleaner, nail file (both of which weren't necessary, but convienient), screwdriver, and a wire cutter. Screwdriver became really convenient for a tool that I didn't even notice was there. Rednekk: I have a Victorinox mini-knife, and it seems useless other than something to hold tweezers, cut paper, and file nails. The knife, IMO, isn't practical for anything.

Not a pocket tool but a belt buckle. I have 2, they work really good. #2 philips #2 flat head, 1/2, 9/16 and 3/4 wrenches and a bottle opener.

Fits around any regular key on your ring to save space, only thing it doesn't have is a blade. ![]() Oh and they also have the Utili-Key-6-in-1: ![]() Edited by Rofl_Mao - 21 March 2012 at 8:58pm |

I like the one that goes over your current key. Nice design.
However I haven't ever needed any of those tools and I wear glasses. Knife? knife. Wire stripper? knife. Medium screw driver? knife. Bottle opener? knife - either carry clip or thumb hole. Can opener? knife. Nail cleaner? knife. See where I'm going? Most of the time if you need a bottle opener you can use the other bottle to lift the top. I've found a cork screw much more useful. KBK |
