This thread is pretty much for Strato, but also for others who wish to join.

My mother was at a yard sale a while back and texted me that there were some "Weird guitars" and asked if I would want them for $1 a piece.

I said sure, because I really like odd things. Even though I don't know how to play guitar at all, I like eccentric things.

I was expecting some kind of guitar with a weird paint job, or a weird amount of strings.

And instead, I got this:

Can anyone identify what in the world this thing is?

It's Alamo brand, but there are no model names on it. I've tried searching for it online but I cannot find anything on it.

I believe it's a steel guitar, but I cannot find any record of such a thing.

Thats a 1974 Alamo Lapglide, probably one of the earlier models.

I've seen similar slide guitars called a "Jet Lap," like the one you linked, but nothing called a "LapGlide."

Yeah mostly because I made it up.

That's probably why you couldn't find it.

I'm guessing it's a later model Jet Lap due to the shape of the body and the decal on the head. Alamo went under in either the 70's or 80's depending on who you talk to. Either way, yours looks in pretty good condition. I smell a trip to Vegas and the "Gold and Silver" to find out what it's worth!

"Let me call a buddy of mine whos an expert on these things"
"It's worth around $5000"
"So how much do you want to sell it to me for?"
"$5000"
"I'll give you $800 for it."
