Seriously?

It is not Ebola.

It is not some other crazy plague.

There will be no carriages with men saying "BRING OUT YER DEAD"

I am sick of hearing about a flu with all the same symptoms, except for some deaths. Deaths in a country that probably has worse medical care in many of its regions. Deaths that if treated most likely would have been avoided.

My rant is brought on by this article:

Yes, I know it is an article outlining the worst case scenario, but really? Did the T virus outbreak happen? Is it really necessary to employ these damn scare tactics to get people to read your stupid news?

So far we have no cases here. Health officials said they expect to see it hit the state but they aren't super worried about it.

From what I've read it's not good when flu viruses mix their gene types, which is what happened in 1918 from bird flu. Though with today's medical technologies I don't see it getting as bad as it did back then, but still it shouldn't be ignored.

The greatest threat is if this thing turned into a pandemic, because then, we would run out of the antiviral drugs needed to fight the flu and people would start dieing here. People are dying in Mexico because of the lack of the right kind of antiviral drugs.

Also, a student brought in about 7 masks today and handed them out, and it was pretty funny. I wanted one. But anyways.

Dude, you realize that antibiotics don't do anything against viruses, and than influenza is a virus, right?

Antiviral drugs are only somewhat effective anyway, not nearly to the point where we can rely on them the way we rely on antibiotics for bacterial infections.

There are a multitude of reasons why this flu is getting the airtime it is, and I suggest you read up on it before you make an ignorant comment as "it's the flu but only a couple of people have died".


The 'normal flu' generally only kills the really young, really old, or really weak/sick. It never kills the healthy 16-50 year olds.


This flu IS killing that demographic. It IS worrying that it kills the part of the population who should easily fight it off.

Another thing is that it's doing things to the lungs that the flu just does not do. This flu is causing pneumonia in a lot of them, which is not normal.


And finally, we're trying to figure out how it got spread to humans in the first place, and how it is continuing to spread to other humans.

Prevention: Influenza antiviral drugs also can be used to prevent influenza when they are given to a person who is not ill, but who has been or may be near a person with swine influenza. When used to prevent the flu, antiviral drugs are about 70% to 90% effective. When used for prevention, the number of days that they should be used will vary depending on a person’s particular situation.

CDC Recommendation

CDC recommends the use of oseltamivir or zanamivir for the treatment and/or prevention of infection with swine influenza viruses.

  • Oseltamivir (brand name Tamiflu ®) is approved to both treat and prevent influenza A and B virus infection in people one year of age and older.
  • Zanamivir (brand name Relenza ®) is approved to treat influenza A and B virus infection in people 7 years and older and to prevent influenza A and B virus infection in people 5 years and older.

Recommendations for using antiviral drugs for treatment or prevention of swine influenza will change as we learn more about this new virus.

Clinicians should consider treating any person with confirmed or suspected swine influenza with an antiviral drug. Visit: http://www.cdc.gov/swineflu/recommendations.htm for specific recommendations.

Did you know that the a diabetic emergency has the SAME EXACT symptoms of a head injury, heart attack, cardiac arrest, seizures, strokes, and other life threatening illnesses?

Just because it has the same symptoms does not mean it can be equated to the other type.




Like you just admitted, it's more deadly. THAT is why people are freaking out.


Hey, if the head of the CDC gets worried about a virus, you bet your ass I will be too.
