I am buying my first marker soon and I want to buy clothes to play in.. however I don't want to look like I'm "All the gear, no idea.." If you know what I mean ;) So I will probably either get just a Jersey or just playing pants.. I'm not sure which though. If I get playing pants I will probably be able to slide easier, etc though I'm guessing(?) a jersey will keep my upper half cooler than standard clothing.

Clothing, as with markers is all about personal preference. Personally, I only play woodsball/scenario, so most of my playing clothes are geared towards that. I will also adjust what I wear depending on the field I am at and the other players. As an example, if I am going to a field for a scenario or "big game", I will be more camo'ed up and wearing my tactical vest. If it is just a day of rec ball, I would be more subdued and probably just wearing camo pants and a heat gear shirt or even a short sleeve black t shirt. I will also use a simpler pod belt vs the vest.

I think some pretty basic gear that will not break the bank would be 1-2 pairs of dark colored cargo pants, a long sleeve "heat gear" top, a plain shortsleeved dark colored top, and something to wear over for colder weather (for us in the North). I would highly suggest some appropriate under gear as well. Personally, I have 2 pairs of compression shorts (works miracle for chaffiing on us larger guys), a set of cold gear tops and bottoms, and perhaps a " heat gear" top that can be worn under things helps a lot.  Wear good sweat wicking socks (keep 2-3 pairs with you).

As for shoes, I wear some older hiking boots that I have had forever, but a lot of people prefer combat types of boots for scenario play. A lot of people also wear cleats, again a matter of preference.

I like a lot of the playing gear from Dye, Proto, Empire and the others, but have a hard time coming up off of the money for it and probably wouldnt end up wearing it for fear of ripping it. The biggest part is for you to wear what is comfortable for you. You also have to take into account what is typical for your area.
