Yeah, working two jobs can sometimes be a downer but I just keep telling myself that it's all going to be worth it in the end.

How do you possibly fit in two jobs and go to law school? Also, why are getting a law degree if you're making $180k+ a year without it? |

Which makes you wonder about some people's choice of employment... In other unrelated news, I just won the table tennis tournament here at the office, crushing all opposition in my path. Boo-yah!! |

I just got another job for the fall today. Just what I need. I am Editor-In-Chief right now for the campus paper, but I only have two weeks left.
Job 1) - Job- Online Editor of the Central Florida Future, the campus newspaper for the University of Central Florida. -Wage- $100 per issue, three issues a week. -Hours- Most all of the work is done outside the office, but I do come in at the end of production days and upload the content online. In total about 35 hours a week. -Pros- Great experience in working online, because the industry is moving online -Cons- It still has the stigma of being the campus papers, so people don't consider it "real." Job 2) -Job- Staff writer for the Winter Park Observer, a smaller community paper for Winter Park, Florida. This is the one I just got today. -Pay- $50 per story, three stories a week, so $150 per week. That is the minimum, I can write more for an extra concurrent $50 per story. -Hours- About 15 hours a week. -Pros- Working at a "real" newspaper. I really like the city of Winter Park. Not a whole lot of hours required. I work with awesome people -Cons- Not much pay, 30 minute commute to work. Job 3) -Job- Freelance writer for the Seminole Chronicle. -Pay- $75 per story. -Hours- Freelance, so I only get paid per story, no matter the hours I put in, but usually not that much -Pros- Great money, good circulation number for a county-wide newspaper so I get my name out there. -Cons- They rarely ever hire people full-time, so I will pretty much be stuck doing freelance work for a while. Job 4) -Job- Resident Assistant for on-campus housing at UCF. -Wage- $100 per week, plus an 85% discount on my apartment, so I only pay about $120 per month to live there. -Hours- One night a week on duty, 4 weekends per semester. Plus, random scheduled tasks like programming and such -Pros- Gives me a cheap place to live. -Cons- Pops up as a conflict when I try to write news stories on campus, generally takes up too much of my time. Probably going to quit soon. Edited by agentwhale007 - 22 July 2008 at 6:08pm |

My employment wasn't a matter of choice so much as it was a matter of availability and necessity. As, I would imagine, is the case with many of the young workers here. |

That's a very fair point. Let me suggest, then that when employment and/or career choices are available, the people you work with (customers and co-workers) should be an important consideration. Sucks to be around people you don't like all day. |
