Seriously now...
I doubt many of you will have the patience to read that so here's the short version. Someone says cops should not be allowed to have MP5's, that they are too "overpowered".
...
Really? Hiding from bad people? Who does that?!

So can you explain why suburban cops need MP5's?
Please? |

Typical NJ attitude.
When I was in high school... township cops wanted MP5s in response to a violent bank robbery next town over, in Princeton. Not to equip an entire squad mind you... just TWO. I believe they were turned down. They might have eventually been given funding a while later. On that same note... township councilwoman questioned why police needed full size "luxury" cars like the Crown Victoria? Why couldn't we get them smaller, cheaper cars? Why do the police need a full size car with a V8 in it? It's not like we're Los Angeles with high-speed chases... just buy them a compact car. And she was serious. But... not just limited to NJ. Public view is that the police should not look like a military unit. A wood stock shotgun, or even a traditional wooden-stock Mini-14 might pass the public sheeple test... but something all-black and evil looking like an AR15 or MP5? No way! Whatever. If Wayne doesn't get their MP5s, then they don't get their MP5s. They'll have to make-do with what they got, and rely on Staties for any tactical response. |

Let's give them grenades and rocket launchers while we're at it. And tanks. Cops need tanks. Flamethrowers too.

Anyone that says the MP5 is "over powered" needs to pull thier politically correct head out of thier rear. If you do some actual ligimate research, and have more than an ounce of common sense you'd realise the truth of the situation. Submachine guns are not ment to have excessively large amounts of stopping power. It defeats the purpose. The whole concept for a submachinegun is for very LARGE volumes of fire, with minimal recoil, semi-accurately and with a moderate stopping-power; it is a close range weapon. (you don't want the ammunition too powerful, beacuse if it does not strike the target, it is far less likely to punch through suburban and urban walls, into areas where you don't want hot lead flying into) Not only that but the design of the MP5 (and loads of other SMGs) lend themselves VERY well towards effective use supressors. A SWAT team's wet-dream. It'd be more than safe to say that the SWAT teams, delta, Seals, etc. are so loyal to the MP5 and it's cousins beacuse they are unbelievably dependable, reliable and robust machines that can be customised to a very fine degree. Low maintenence and an unusually high level of accuracy (considering what the weapon really is...) just make it that much sweeter... Give them the MP5's, and a couple AR15's while you're at it. (the Remington 700, and M1A/M14 are just icing on the cake, Mk. 23's being the cherry) Edited by Belt #2 - 13 February 2008 at 10:43pm |

I read it, and I agree, on some conditions. I think the MP5 should replace the shotgun in the back seat of the cruiser. Mp5 is still too big for a cop's everyday carry weapon though, and it would be more of a hassle than it is worth, because how often do you need a gun period. Granted, it's still compact, but it would get in the way for everyday all time carry. The pistol is still perfect, it's not too big where it would get in the cop's way and compromise range of motion for when a weapon isn't needed (cuffing someone, ect) but it's still something if the situation did arise. An mp5 needs 2 hands or a shoulder strap, and you don't want sub machine gun hanging from you neck within arms reach of anyone you encounter. Now if a school's getting shot up, that's when you bust out the mp5 instead of the shotgun or pistol, where you can get quick accurate and powerful shots off, from somewhat of a distance. A 7mm bullet is still going to drop someone no problem, and it's going to do it more accurately and at a much greater distance than a shotgun. For cops, shotguns have to be the most useless and unpractical weapon, why they carry them is beyond me.

Columbine? Dye, 7mm? I think you mean 9mm... Shotguns work many purposed. If you were staring down the business end of a shot gun, you'd be extremely intimidated. Also, when in a shootout, which would you rather have, a shotgun or a pistol? Plus shotguns are usually in the front of a cruiser (not always) while rifles/submachine guns are in the trunk. Shotgun is easier to get too. Edited by Linus - 13 February 2008 at 10:44pm |

They already have AR-15's with eotechs. MP5's aren't all that big people. I've shot a full auto one. Fun gun, fast and the barrel climb isn't to bad. Just because the gun can be shot in burst/full auto doesn't make TEH EVILZ
