India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, England, Norway, Israel, Germany - some of the many countries with close ties to the Middle East (and for Pakistan/Israel, IN the Middle East) that have had female executives without any apparent loss of credibility. And, of course, our top interface with the Middle East is Condoleezza Rice. The Arabs, Turks, Persians, etc have seen a lot more of her than they have of Dick or GW. |

It's unfortunate that many people will refuse to vote for Obama on the basis of race and Hilary on gender. Legitimate arguments against their positions is just fine though. However, people tend to use other factors in order to cover up their trend towards streotyping.

That's a good point, but it's not like many of our previous Presidents proved worthy of the office either. I do however, think your basis for not voting for a woman is ridiculous. Although I haven't really seen a woman other than Hillary step into the limelight and try to take charge, it doesn't mean they aren't out there somewhere in our Congress. I also believe calling them tempermental is scary. That's a stereotype and fits well in to sexism. I could say that men are more aggressive which tends to get us into wars like the one we are in, but that doesn't make it absolutely true. |

At this point, I will say that I would never vote for a woman for president. That could change in the future if some excellent candidate was to come along, but I have so far never met/heard of a single woman who I thought would be qualified/level headed enough to be the POTUS. Seeing as women are so complicated and temperamental, I have a feeling that it would cause problems in the government. Not to mention the fact that we're dealing largely with the Middle East right now, and most of those countries will never respect a woman as a leader. I wouldn't vote for Obama in the upcoming election because he's done nothing so far (IMO) to prove his worth as a president. Maybe once he gets a few years under his belt, but definately not right now. |

I see Dune...my favorite liberal law enforcment officer. :)
Listen, about the racism topic I feel the I need to re iterate a simple point. Racism does exist (and I'm not just talking about against blacks). Racism is also a product of the environment, minorities are taught that they are being repressed, and non-minorities are taught (in some cases) to repress minorities. I believe that most of the problem stems from the continued promotion of sereotypical behavior. Simply put, if you want people to look at you as if you are different act, dress, and talk differently. America is supposed to be a melting pot, not a big muddy mess of people that hate their own country. Later |

People can make racist jokes about other groups of people and not actually hate them. |

I agree with evillepaintball I believe if your around a certain group of people long enough, ie: the black people in his school, you may become annoyed by their behavior and notice things you that you wouldn’t when your just around that group for a short period of time. I also believe that racism isn’t the only form of discriminate bigotry, someone who constantly makes fun of or criticizes a person because they are religious or non religious is just as bad. In my opinion its kind of a you me leave alone and ill leave you alone issue.

I don't think that would stop me from voting for them. I can tell you now though, I don't think this nation is anywhere near being ready for a female/black pres/vice duo in office. |

This is quite entertaining, I know I'm keeping Gatyr at the edge of his seat. Which reminds me to ask, would you refuse to vote for either Obama or Clinton as president solely on the basis of gender and race? I bet there a few of you that would. Edited by Dune - 18 June 2007 at 7:52pm |

The reason you got strikes was because of the language, not mods favoring people. If I had made racist remarks I would have gotten a strike as well. The point of the thread was to discuss racism's prevelance in today's society. Obviously, it is still relevant.

Alright if it erks people so much I will type properly. Now let it ride, please for the simple fact I would rather concentrate on paintball other than defending myself. Also I did not get mad about people disagreeing with me I got mad about people attacking me but no one else got a strike right mods? Not to mention you are right I am over it.

You're right, the thread needs to return to intelligent conversation. So go ahead and move on, but be careful. You're already on strike 2. For future reference, this is thoughts and opinions, often containing discussions not about paintball. They can get heated, you have to learn to have a cool head and take it on the chin or else you'll just get upset every time someone disagrees. Seeing how racism still lives within our youth today is ridiculous. It scares me that people actually continue to use stereotypes as an appropriate means to judge people. That is true immaturity. We all have our racist tendencies and it's nothing that anybody can avoid. The best way to approach it is to always try to see other people's viewpoints. At the very least, you'll have a reason for hating that group of people. Hopefully with this mentality, instead of continuing to hate, you can rid of most of your dislike for different groups of any kind.
I hope you understand that typing with that new standard you set for yourself is the only way people will take you seriously here. The effort matters. If you're too lazy to type coherently, then we're only going to be too lazy to respect waht you're trying to say. |

I'm not even acknowledging your first part, trying to read it was hard enough. Secondly, you believe different races are taught to hate us? Wow, you learn that in your version of the bible too? Your perversion of religion is what scares me about people. It gives some people a very bad name. I'm proud to be an atheist tree hugger. I'm still not sure what the point is here. Really, was that so hard? Typing properly really isn't as difficult as people make it out to be, and if you types as coherently as this in each of your posts, you wouldn't have these petty arguments. |
