Hey Kook,

IMHO they both look Awsome . Wastes Co2? Never heard that from my Buddy who runs Co2 with his R/T Grip.

On a Budget go A5 ( I can't believe I just typed that  )

Want the Latest go X7 (it is definitely lighter and will be less fatiguing (spell check) when playing all day).

Best wishes,

Are you serious? My advice was sound advice. Perhaps you should try other markers besides your tippmann?

Personally I've gone from owning two Spyders (a Compact 2000, and an E-99) to owning a Tippmann A-5. By far I love the A-5 more, it can outperform my old markers and then some. Don't get me wrong though, Kingman Spyder makes a good paintball marker; but for me I like the A-5's low maintenece aspects. Also the cyclone alone almost makes it worth buying, no replacing batteries, and no misfeeds (for the most part).

alright guys i got a situation on my hands and am needing a little help. the first gun i ever owned was a tippmann 98 custom and i absolutley loved it then i got my hands on a spider and used it for a long time and really enjoyed that gun but it became out dated so i went and bought an ion and now i absolutely hate the damn thing i take good care of it and it still has problems and brakes down on me all the damn time, so i figured i would go back to tippmann products. not to mention that i really enjoy woodsball more than speedball. but now im at the choice of two either A5 or x-7 i think the X-7 looks cooler but alot of you guys are saying A5 is there really any difference in quality between the two? or accuracy, rate of fire, etc. or should i just try something different than tippmann? thanks for the help guys

Well I recently bought an A-5 and I like it. Im having problems with the Flatline barrel but thats just because I have no idea what Im doing and I could really use some tips on its accurate range and what the FPS should be for best accuracy (PM me or post below if you know ). From what I hear X7 is more cosmetic but its lighter and has a better cyclone which I dont understand why or how because the cyclone looks the same to me. But if I were you I would definatly go Tippmann for their durability. I just hosted a paintball game and I forgot I left it on the back of our Gator and I drove off and it just fell off the back and it was unscaved. Sure there was a scratch or 2 but it didnt really do any damage to it.

bapaintballer71:

Between the A5 or the X7, the X7 is better but I don't know that it's really worth the extra money. The main differences between the two are that the X7 has a lighter body, a better cyclone, and can accept some better milsim upgrades. Other than that it's basically just an A5 with a new look as far as I can tell. If that's worth the price difference to you then go for it. Otherwise, the A5 is the better choice.

Either gun is a good choice, both are solid and can be made into very nice guns. Accuracy and rate of fire will be the same as they are almost identical on the inside and take pretty much the same upgrades. Accuracy and rate of fire will be craptastic at stock so you'll definitely be upgrading the barrel and adding an RT, egrip, or double trigger. Honestly though, if money is a concern and you don't want to be limited to the cyclone (or have a good hopper already), a 98 custom ACT may be an even better choice. It's cheaper, has ACT, and you can get the same upgrades (including the cyclone if desired). Though, you would be giving up the field stripping and all the other advantages of the A5 over the 98.

Savage A-5:

What kind of problems? I've had best results with small bore paint and velocity at around 260-270. If you're having a serious issue, I'd make a new thread so that we don't get off-topic in this one.

The X7 only costs $230 at my local paintball shop in Ma. Therefore, why not spend a tad bit more on it? I did, and belive me it was worth it.

Although the flatline barrel on the X7 is not long enough to add an extra 150 feet to the distance of a paintball.

The Response Trigger is a great mod to add onto the X7. I have one on my X7 myself, and it just gives you a great feeling when your firing with it (Sweet spot is very easy to get).

The only other mods I would consider to get is the commando-air-through stock/ foldable stock, and a verticle hand grip. Other than that, everything else makes the X7 look more bulky then it already is.

Tippmann X7
Flatline Barrel
Response Trigger 15 bps
14" quite rifled barrel
Vertical Folding Grip
Laser Sight

X7 is just a way to make an expensive gun look like a good buy. o, everyone likes the A5 so the X7 should be way better, it even comes with mods on it, so even the new guys who dont want to spend a lot can justify the expense, or the milsimmers can do whatever they want with a marker thats to big for any speedballer to touch ever. except it doesnt realy do much past the A5. lol its lighter, ya its an ok bonus but its also like way bigger, and bigger is the thing htat gets you shot. most improvements on the X7 can be put on the A5 without putting on the size.  A5 all the way

Have you ever seen an X7 in person? It's almost the exact same size as an A5 so I don't know where you got the idea that it's huge. In fact, right here on the tippmann site it says that length for both the A5 and X7 is 20 inches and since the internal design of both guns is nearly identical I'm willing to bet that the other dimensions are the same as well. I've held one at the store and it looks and feels just like my A5 in terms of size although it's very light. Oddly enough, the site also says that the X7 is heavier than the A5 which I find hard to believe. In any case, if you can get it for $230 then that's not bad at all. You'd basically be paying the extra $30 for a better cyclone and a lighter body in addition to getting a nice looking gun that can accept some nice milsim upgrades. Personally, if I didn't have the A5 and was looking to buy one of the two, I'd get the X7 for the extra $30.

I have an A-5.  I don't think it's a gas hog.  I think thats just hyped up b/c of the cyclone.  X7 is bulkier.  It may be lighter, but seems harder to manage the size.  However, the new egrip looks pretty sweet.  I've had to send my A-5 egrip back 3 times.

Yeah, I think the people who say the cyclone wastes air just don't understand it. I've had my A5 and 98 custom for years and notice no significant difference in efficiency between them. The whole idea behind the cyclone says that no gas is wasted too so I don't see why people would bother saying something like that. About the egrip, I heard a lot of bad stuff about the WAS board so I got myself an APE rampage board instead. I just put it in a few hours ago, it's a pretty nice board. The only thing that sucked was that it didn't quite fit into the grip properly. I'm not sure if it's the APE board or if I just got a crappy grip but the capacitor and solenoid didn't want to go all the way into the grooves inside the grip so I had to whip out the dremel. I shaved away some of the plastic so that the parts could sit all the way down, otherwise I would have had to crush them to make the grip close.

I have both A5 and X7 both of them kinda fully moded , get an x7 with egrip and u wont regret it, the new egrip for x7 makes it very nice with that faster cyclone system on it, u shoot like 20 bps if not more.Me and my brother tested both gun near each other, the x7 (with egrip) and the a5 (with egrip) we could see that the x7 shoots like 5-7 balls ( if not more)faster, not to mention that it looks way netter and lighter, hope this will help u decide :),am gonna post pics and video about it. Sorry for my crap english.

Are you sure that the X7 is lighter? The specs at Tippmann.com say that the A5 is lighter. Anyway I have an X7 and I really like it, is realiable, accurate, and I like the look of it, the only bad thing that I can say about it is that is does use alot of Co2 but I hear that the a5 does also.

The X7 "out of the box" IS slightly better. People are right when they say that you can mod the A5 to be just as good, but you'd end up paying the same if not more doing so. Basically, the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You decide for yourself what the hell you want to buy.

I bought the X7 because I wanted the latest gun and there were (for me) some significant upgrades to the X7. I have the e-trigger now and it's blistering fast. You can change the rate of fire and I have mine up to 25bps with a  New Designz Cyclone Feed F6 Tornado Mod. My buddy bought an A5 at the same time with an e-trigger and I'm not sure if you can change rate of fire on those or not. someone else will have to speak for that.

There are always a million different opinions on the subject so you will just have to decide. Go to your local dealer and see if you can hold one.  Maybe even test fire one of them. Just don't sell yourself on someone else's opinion.

I just registered on the tippmann forums but I recently just bought my own tippmann after mouching my friend's A5 everytime we played this summer. I have a compact2000 and an Xtra but I really got tired of them and their lack of range compaired to all my friends' Model 98's so I asked around at work and one of the guys that plays speedball suggested I buy an X7. Honestly I feel like the X7 is a lot lighter than the A5 but that is probably just b/c my friend's A5 has the flatline and it just makes his gun feel really front heavy. But I got my X7 about a month ago and the only thing I ordered it with was the e-trigger. I can't stress this enough but BUY A BIGGER BARREL THE SECOND YOU GET YOUR X7!! The day I got it and played as soon as we finished I went to Micheal's (my favorite local paintball store) and asked him if he had any new barrels. Oddly enough the only barrel that matched the threads and foregrip was for a Spyder...... But it's a perfect match and it works really well so w/e.

The X7 stock needs to replaced immediately I think. I have a J&J 14" and a flatline. The JJ gives great accuracy and the flatline will give you a distance advantage (hoping the balls break though). Keep in mind.. when shooting with the flatline.. it's all about QUANTITY of balls flying!

My personal opinion about this topic is that they are both good guns. I was introduced to paintball running around with an A5, and I liked it alot. I don't like the way the flatlines look on a A5 even with the shrouds. And if you compare a modded X7 (flatline, rails and accessories) to a modded A5 with the same components, the A5 is heavier and bulkier. BUT.. the RT on the A5 is alot better then the X7 RT. I got a great deal on my X7, and yes most of it is cosmetics! I got a buddy of mine that wouldn't trade his 98C for nothing.. so it's all about what you want.
