Well, as much as i normally agree with Bri...i have to say we need to bring hanging back to canada(while it is still, technically, allowed).
I have one name for that argument: Karla Homolka (and being a montrealer...especially angry about that!) Secondly. Gonzo is my second most favorite form of porno |

Public hanging would be a very good deterrant for society when it comes to committing a crime. If I had to die, they had better send me to Eddyville State here. I think we hold a record for electric chair executions.

That is a bold comment. And your research proves this theory? Like Whale stated, it's a lot of "I feel this way" against "this is how it actually is." |

Isnt everything in this world opinionated in one way or another anyway? Hell in New Hampshire it is still allowed. Public hanging, as gruesome as it may be could very well be a great deterannt for major criminal behavior. I honestly dont think anything ever would be. Because there has always been criminals and therefore in my opinion there always will be. Just like theres always been war with humans and there always will be. Its a sad part of human nature. Greed. |

I have no problem with the death penalty in concept. Some deserve to die for their crimes- let me be clear on that. My problem is in my distrust of the criminal justice system to get it right. Innocent people have been executed. That is a conclusively proven fact. One is too many.
Sammy, would YOU put the gun to the head of the innocent man and shoot him, telling him, "It's on, you're one of maybe 10-20 at most... and it's for the greater good."? It's easy to use statistics to make innocent lives seem like a minor deal, but INNOCENT PEOPLE HAVE BEEN JUDICIALLY KILLED. Others have been exonerated later, but every one of those met the initial burden of proof to be found guilty and sentenced to death. Life in prison without parole serves the same ends execution doe,s but with the possibility of reversal. It's still cheaper than an execution with all the (necessary) appeals that go along with. Until the possibility of executing an innocent person is utterly eliminated from the system, it's too risky to use the death penalty. The law exists to protect innocent people, not risk killing them. Thor: Capital punishment was removed from the Criminal Code in 1976, and from the National Defence Act in 1998. There's no provision for hanging in Canadian law that I can find. Sure, we've had people deserving of the sentence, but one must draw a line on the side of absolute caution, even if that means Paul and Karla have to live. |
