Im looking for cheap get me to point a point b car. So i can work etc.

Well i found one but theres few "bads" as they say of the car.

I have a 1989 Pontiac Grand Prix SE.

Problems:
Exhaust Leak ( must get fixed cant drive real far with the loud exhaust)
Driver Ball Joint( Bad but it can make it close by but need to be fixed ASAP)
Rear Calipers
Fuel System Sluggish/Clogged ( Need professional Cleaning)
Punctured Front Driver side Tire ( Someone made a hole on one tire and i have a spare)

This car is good nothing electrical or anything bad. Engine is strong and so is the Transmission has about 126,000 miles..

Is it worth it to get it fixed?

I would save it and get something more along the $3K to $5K area, you would be amazed at some of the things you could get.

Edit: That tranny is also going to need to be replaced, and thats gonna cost more than the car.

I understand where your coming from. I am lucky and got a 100K warrenty on my truck so I dont have to pay for work on it. Though I still get my ass kicked by gas prices. 6 Liter V8's aint fuel friendly.

Maybe a Honda Civic or something. I dont know how large of a fellow you are but those will run forever if you keep the belts in good shape.

If your that tall (we're bout the same size) I would avoid Honda. Go for a older Camry.

Find yourself an old Chevy Cavalier. Those things will keep ticking long after you cease to do so.

Yeah, the money you save by buying a car for $300, you will MORE than spend in the upkeep of said car...save up and get something that's not falling apart at the seams...you'll be much happier without the frustration.

Im not a huge fan of used front wheel drives. Maybee a early 90's chevy caprice or monte carlo, or a ford ltd. Replacement parts are cheap for these cars. Ya dont want to spend 300 on a car then stick another 500 to get it running, especially with a ball joint which is a safety issue. That joint snaps then your entire wheel assembly is going to collapse and could cause a really bad wreck especially at hi-way speeds.

What about a Pick up truck? Again easy to work on and cheap parts.

i'd save up a bit more and buy something that doesn't have quite as many issues.  small problems that are easy to fix are ok, but major joints and other big problems aren't worth the money to fix...

if you're on a budget already, you don't want to burden yourself any more.

Sideways mounted motors make it no fun when changing say the belts or alternator. I remember my wifes cavalier (points up, wont mention names) and it must of taken me 3 or so hours to put a alternator on. I almost took the SKS to it. Also you have to worry about expensive CV joints, front end alignment. Going through more tires since your engine is sitting on top of your tires then compound a bad wheel alignment then there is even more wear on the tires.

^ Just my opinion and thinking I can save him some $$ in the long run.

for $300 i'd say go for it.  but in the mean time, save.  dont expect that to last you very long.  the water pump is do to go at any time now and its got body rot.

i paid 350 for a 93 olds cutless supreme that had a bad tranny. had a hard time shifting up but once i was at 60-65 i would get 30+ MPG...

tires can be cheap just ask around for a used one. junk yards will have them and a gurage might sell you one. fix the ball joint and the calipers before you drive it. and the exhaust can probly be patched with jb weld...

try changing the fule filter and get some carb cleaner before you pay to have the fule system cleaned.
