So, a 3rd hard drive has failed on me in the 2 1/2 months i have been using windows vista beta 2.  These drives were mainly old ones i ripped from old computers; some i had been using for years.

1st drive :  Seagate medallion 3.2 gb (replaced w/ WD caviar 4.3 gb because vista wouldn't start without a drive plugged in to primary slave)

2nd drive : IBM De[ath]star 40.0 gb  (click of death)

3rd drive : the WD caviar 4.3 gb  (had to reinstall vista on my main WD caviar se 80gb since it would bsod without a second drive)

That, combined with so many things not working right in vista has pissed me off so many times i will never buy vista when it comes out- regardless of how much they've fixed since beta 2.

Anyone want to send me an ubuntu disc?   Vista wont burn cd's- the write light flashes for like 10 seconds, then vista tells me an unknown error occured and then the disc is unusable.

Why do you have two harddrives that are only 4 and 3 gigs?

You can get the CDs yourself at https://shipit.ubuntu.com/

The drives were old and small, yes, but all 3 had been working flawlessly until i installed vista.  Perhaps vista began indexing them or somthing, but i find it odd that i would have 3 separate failures of older, albeit perfectly fine drives in only 2 and 1/2 months.

Hades- I know what beta is.  I know that it is pre-release software, my mileage will vary, and safety is not guaranteed, but i have so many programs and hardware that just does not work.

I will stick to xp,  thank you.

So, this begs the question, why aren't you running XP now?

I had to do an "upgrade installation" which overwrote XP.  It tried to move all my programs and services from xp, but it was sooo slow.

i did a fresh install and am disliking every minute of it.

/me wants a macintosh.

You are hating the compatability in VISTA, and yet you want a mac?
Excuse me while I go inform the papers that logic is, indeed, dead.

You are upset that vista BETA won't run your really old, crappy hard drives?

Don't judge Vista purely on the Beta version. Even RC1 is still not actual production OS.

I strongly dislike people like you Travis, you expect a BETA of a NEXT-GEN OS (Vista) to be capable with your harddrives which are out of date, have horrible space, and are overall just sad. And then you JUDGE the OS as BAD and want a MAC because it dosen't work with those? Do you know not what "Beta" means? Dude, Lawl

You may have a driver problem for your older Hard drives, see if you can download a driver ( if one is even available) from the drive MFG or Microsoft.
