I would expect any os at this point to interface flawlessly with any hdd using industry-standard interfaces that have existed for over a decade.

Vista killing my hard drives is only only one of the dozens of problems i've had with this software.  As an OS, even an incomplete one, its bloated as hell and is a terrible resource hog; my comp is by no means old or slow(A64 3200+ 1.75gb ram, 7300gs), and it grinds to a halt when i try to do simple tasks.  UAC is a nuisance, and the dumbed down interface gets in my way.

I've seen the way vista is heading, and i want nothing to do with it.

Then go download it.

Vista is no different from every other MS Windows release since Win95. People complain about the features/content/design/flaws, before it comes out, there will be bugs found in the OS that will need to be dealt with via service packs, but all in all, it will probably be more stable and secure than it's predecessors.

You have a early beta of Vista... I have seen and TESTED the latest version and it is very very good looking and stable, What have you seen "Bad" about Vista besides the fact that it dosen't work with your old hard-drives in it's friggin BETA FORM! One of the KEY FEATURES in Vista is that it utilizes FULL DUAL CORE power. If you don't upgrade that's fine.. you will no matter what eventually, When DX10 comes you heh, I'll be seeing you with Vista.

one question, what in vista broke the hard drives? they sound like old pieces of crap to me..

shub, if you don't know what SuperFetch is, i suggest you read up on it. vista IS different from the previous releases of windows. they took the time to add in popular features from other operating systems to make it easy to use for anyone. at the same time i curse the ease-of-use because i don't need an OS to baby me through simple tasks..

travis, read up on what you install much?

No, I didn't mean that Vista was the same OS as every other version of Windows MS has released...I meant that public reaction for Vista is just like every other version of Windows that MS has released.
