When I was younger, my friends and I tried to come up with a rule-structure for something very similar to Assassins (at the time, we had never heard of it). It was my highest ambition to one day create an immersive, real life game, filled with intrigue and paranoia.
Then, one day, on the way to a Speech and Debate tournament, deep in discussion with my Coach, Jeff, dropped a bombshell. I was telling him about the game I had in mind, when he said something to the effect of "Oh, yeah. Assassin. We played that in college." My mind, she was blown. I really want to play Assassin. I mean, so much it hurts. I don't want to wait until college, where there may or may not be a group that plays. I want to try and make a game work at high school. Thoughts? Its fun, we play it here alot. The longest game lasted the whole semester. We all went out and bought the Nerf pistols, and you only had as many darts as you had targets, so you had to make shots count. As for HS, I think it would be hard to do if you were using some sort of projectile, because of the rules. I dont know, you could always give it a try. Now I'm in the mood to play. I'm gonna go and see if people want to get a game going.

I'm thinking Knife (Perm marker) kills would be most efficient in HS, and maybe CD car bombs.

Yeah, thats probably the best idea. Just dont get caught putting CD's into peoples cars, or the cops will think your trying to steal the car and you end up in prision, playing another game called assassin, if you get my drift. Edited by iceman1186 - 21 August 2006 at 7:28pm |

I met an ex-girlfriend of mine playing this game. We played a few different versions. I won the first round because the guy running it found the last person playing with me to be cheating. We were just using the Steve Jackson book "Killer" for the rules.
Zoom lens cameras were sniper rifles. You could burn down the building somebody was in if you could wrap it around in toilet paper without being asked by any person to stop, and before the person could get out or break your line. Bombs could be made out of shoeboxes, and they had to be made so that they "went off" at some trigger, such as a door opening or being bumped. They had to actually do something, making a noise. No noise, no boom. Bubble wrap was a landmine you could place under a mat or outside somebody's door. Duct tape was contact poison, marked with the person's name who placed it, usually on a doorknob or a car door handle. Nerf guns replaced real ones. You could use a garrote by placing your hands on your victim's shoulders from behind, no neck grabbing whatsoever. If, and this was fun, you had two cohorts with you and your victim in a room on the third floor or above, that also had a window, you and your buddies could declare that you were defenestrating them, tossing them out the window to die. Lots of fun stuff. I burned my first victim to death. I shot the second. I blew up the third. And I almost shot the last one, but he was deemed a cheater and I was deemed the winner. He had missed me too but claimed he had a grenade launcher, which he didn't. Each person was given "money" and could call in to the gamemaster to buy a weapon off of the list given to everybody. The cheater guy was using weapons he hadn't purchased, and using non-players for game purposes, such as stepping on one of my mines, touching my contact poison on his car, and setting off the car bomb when she opened the car door. He dodged three bullets that way, and would have been toast otherwise. The second time we played we played a future scenario. I and two others were people from the future, and we had superior weapons, but we were outnumbered several times over. We had flashlights for lasers, and more powerful bombs. We each also had one clone to bring us back, but it cost us almost all of our money, limiting our weapon choices. A friend and I found out where a team was staying, and we assaulted their building. We took them all out (One guy swore I hadn't gotten him, so to be sure I placed a bomb on their door so opening it to come out and negotiate and it took out the building, along with much of my resources), so they came outside and soaked us with waterguns. That's how I met an ex-girlfriend. Good game. Lots of fun if you have good people. Simple version: Everybody who wants to play gets together to start. Everybody gets a picture taken, Polaroid preferably, and they write their name and address on it. Pictures are shuffled and exchanged. That's your target, and you can only kill your target and whomever comes after you. Ground rules set: i.e. No interferring with work, or after a certain time of night. Game starts next day at noon. Sounds like a lot of fun. I'm definately going to get some of my friends to play. I start school the 28th, so hopefully we'll be able to get it going and play in school.

In the simple version, everybody needs to have the same weapon, or so similar it doesn't matter, and everybody can agree on. Dart guns, squirt guns.
I forgot to add that when you kill someone, you get their target, and the circles closes until you have only the two, then one. |

The way we play at my school is way simpler. Water guns, with a few limits on where you can and can't be hit. (In your house unless invited in, etc.)

"An additional method is for the assassin to grab his or her target's butt - a two-handed, palpable, simultaneous squeeze which must be agreed upon as legitimate by both killer and victim." Thats my kind of game... |

A couple of the girls used the poison lipstick trick. If they suddenly got friendly you had to decide if you'd like to get the kiss and die, or go running. It had to be a really bright shade, something green preferably.
Our games didn't involve school at all, so we had to give it a lot more latitude. My first target lived more than 30 minutes outside of town, which was a pain, so I burned his house down while he was sleeping. Edited by reifidom - 22 August 2006 at 12:24am |
