my buddy ordered it the night it was on. it wasn't even a close match, hughes tore him apart. There was one point in the match where i swore hughes was going to break gracies arm...you could see it bending back way too far for comfort.

he could have broken his arm, but that would of look bad in a way. That was a good show of sportmanship on Hughes part.

I was surprised he didnt even wince when his arm was getting scrowned. I always hate to see a match end with the ref stopping the fight. A submittion would have been amazing, since it's never been done, but if he had landed that superman punch and just gone to town for a K.O. I would have been happy.

I think I remember hearing the ol' man Gracie fought on in some sort of pre-UFC championship with a broken arm and won. Tough family. But one of the things I never liked about Gracie, was that, if you watch some of his old fights, his opponenets would be tapping out and he wouldnt let go. The ref would be tapping Gracie to let go and he would hang on for a few seconds. Almost wish Hughs had broken his arm, but your right. Showed class and sportsmanship to have not. Not sure Gracie would have done the same. eta. Just watched it. On dial up at home, it would have taken forever to download. Wasnt even close, but I have to agree. Gracie looked completely unfazed. I watched the fight live on PPV. I personally think if Matt Hughes could have broken his arm, he would have. I also agree that Gracie is kind of a cheap and disrespectful fighter, for hanging onto his submissions for longer than needed. My thoughts on the fight were, I would have liked to see it with Gracie wearing his GHI. Once the fighters were introduced, and I saw that Gracie couldn't wear the GHI, I knew he had no chance. Hughes did what he should have, overpowered him and basically beat the snot out of him. It was not a very entertaining fight. If you want to see action, check out the 2 last fights that were aired that night. That black dude Melvin whatever from TUF, knocked some dude out flat on his face with a killer overhand right, you should check it out. |
