-Actually I just turned 16 like a couple months ago and in our driving class the other day. These were the reasons the police officer gave us as to why its illegal..

-You take one hand off the wheel which makes it harder to turn quickly when needed.

As I said before in this thread - it really isn't that hard to turn with one hand.  Espically if you get in an intense situation and your adrenaline kicks in.  Not only that, if you are in such a situation is it really that hard to drop the phone?  Common sence here, peoples.

-You may have to look down while dialing numbers.

Yes, you may, but after ~10 years of using a phone I would hope you know where the numbers are so you don't have to look at it to press the correct buttons.

-If someone calls and you have call waiting you take your eyes off the road and look at the phone.

While one has not been using a cellphone as long as previously stated, it is not that hard to remember where your call waiting button is and press it without looking.

And yes its illegal in my state (Illinois) if you havent figured that out.

Anyway my opinion on this is if they are going to make that illegal then shouldn't they not allow talking to passengers, going through storage things in the front section of the car, changing the radio station while looking at it.

Also driving and eating something like a hamburger or having chicken nuggets/fingers or fries and dipping them in something is alot harder yet they still allow it.

I think its just a privilage that to many stupid people got taken away from us because they are to careless.

really? That's nuts man.

I also enjoy kingston because, no matter how many time winter comes and goes, as soon as there is snow on the ground, accidents triple.

It's like everyone is seeing the stuff for the very first time!

Not to mention that Kingston drivers are scary to begin with,.

Not a word of a lie, the same old person driving the same crappy car has struck my mom three times at the corner of Bath and Queen Mary, up near the old Wal-Mart. I wish I were making that up. The person was turning illiegally on all three occasions, too.

I've never had a problem talking on the cell and driving, but I make it a point to be brief...I don't like to talk on the phone that much period...but I have been in the car with a friend driving and seen first hand the difficulties that some have. Our speed varied up to thiry mph, drifting out into the oncoming lane, and nearly shooting thru a stop sign and landing us into a pond. Y'know, some people can walk and chew gum at the same time, some can't.

i can eat, and drive my 5-speed integra with ease. i have it down to a science. i really don't see what's so hard about it, it's all in how well you can multi-task. the only tricky part is when you are at a stoplight. shifting isn't hard, but shifting + turning can be a problem, so i just stay in the gear that i'm in until i can shift. no one's ever honked at me yet, and i've been driving this car for over 2 years now....but then again, i'm the kind of person who hums to a Mudvayne CD as i'm doing calculus homework....oh well...

I only drive with one hand anyway I just palm the wheel. but I also dont own a phone.

The thing the freaks me out is people reaching over and rolling down there passenger window. it freaks me out to not see anybody driving a car when its in the other lane coming towards you.

I really don't see how it is that hard.  I for one can text message and drive at the same time, and quite well at that, so if you can't simply hold a conversation and drive it is rather sad.

Newport, I honestly do have just as much control with one hand.  I have my hand at the top of the wheel and when I need to turn I turn with my palm.  Hard to explain, but not to do.

I don't claim to have education period.  Much less in cognative sike.

I never talk on a phone while driving. Not worth the risk.

On a trip a few years ago we passed this guy driving between to semi's while talking on his phone and reading, all at night with his dome light on. If he had had something to eat and some sleeping pills he'd have been set.

If you define cowardice as running away at the first sign of danger, screaming and tripping and begging for mercy, then yes, Mr. Brave man, I guess I'm a coward.

You're supposed to drive with both hands. Nobody here can say that they have just as much control with one as they do two, because it's just not true.

In my area we recently had a woman run over two small children on US1 while talking on her cell phone... You can't tell me it had nothing to do with it. If she were paying attention to what she was supposed to be doing instead of running her mouth, those two kids would have went home that day. i hope to see driving while talking on a cell outlawed in ALL states real soon!

I dont get that into the phone conversations if im driving, and they are normally short because the person on the other end can usually tell im not really paying attention to them.
