I know this request probably won't work, but I'll give it a try anyway:

PLEASE DON'T POST POLITICAL STUFF IN THIS THREAD.

At least not until we have collected some data.  There will be ample time to discuss immigration policy shortly.

Now read on:

Various immigrant groups have declared boycotts today, ranging from work to school to shopping.

So my question for you:  Have you noticed anything different?  Are people missing?  I business slow?  Is Ahmed still at the 9/11?

Please post your immigrant sightings and/or tales of absence.

So far I haven't noticed anything in particular, but the day is young.

I haven't noticed anything. All the immigrants are still at college today. Most of them are at the library along with myself at the moment. Seems like only a few people took this seriously. I'd like to ask them what they think but I don't wanna come off as rude/a jerk with all these people around... maybe later.

from what we discussed in my Contemporary Issues class
today, some of the plans for the boycott were altered a
bit. i believe it was so it wouldn't swith from
"non-gringo" day to "get fired from your minimum wage
job" day.

my thought though, they plan to show how important they
are to the economy by what, not buying our goods for a
day? so you pass on a bag of chips today and buy two
tomorrow... it's an important point they wish to make,
but it's poorly directed

I would be really curious if some high-profile immigrants took part.

Madeleine Albright (if she were still in office) not showing up for work would certainly get some people's attention, or Andy Grove, or any number of other Silicon Valley VIPs.

But I am curious/fascinated by this whole thing.  We'll see.

I know some of my coworkers didnt show up while under threat of disciplinarian action to be taken. I have the day off so I havent been out and about.

I am willing to bet my class this evening will be bare since midterms was last week and nothing is due. I might skip it myself.

I don't see any difference. 'Course, there really aren't that many immigrants here in Podunk, Ohio...

I saw an SUV flying a mexican flag from each window. I was actually surprised to see anything.

Nothing happening here in Lincoln,NE. Both Cook Foods and Hormel operating as normal, the noon "rally" fizzeled, momma says maybe 35 people in front of Capitol bldg, city center clear.

So much for this middle america hotspot.

Los Angeles is feeling the political action/ boycott today.

Roads and streets are closed [due to rallies and marches] as well and businesses [closed due to no workers or patronage].

I have always refused to buy immigrants.

jk. I haven't noticed anything here. I'm out in the middle of farm country, and my university isn't exactly what you'd call diverse. I'll be heading into town today though, so maybe I'll see something there.

traffic was lighter from what the news showed. i really didnt hear much about this one till the last minute, plus in Az they are at 4 seperate locations which wont have quite the affect. to paraphrase what HV said not buying anything for a day wont hurt the American economy, just look at the bus boycott, it didnt end in a day. i hear Wisconsin had quite the turn out in.

hey OS whats up with NE segregating there schools?

Well we had a sizeable noon rally here in Milwaukee.  Took about 45 minutes or so to pass by my vantage point, and thick in the street.

I don't know how many that comes out to, but clearly at least a couple of thousand.

Maybe I should go down to the convenience store and see if the Kims are working today.

But the not buying gas for a day scheme worked so well, why wouldnt this?

I am about to go to the convenience store to buy a small amount of milk, i'll report back in a few hours after I get back from swim practice.

As far as school goes, I didnt notice any drop in attendence. In all my honors/AP classes, no one was absent, and in my regular class, it was the typical amount fo skippers and truencies. But I will admit that my school isnt the most diverse as far as amount of each ethnicity go, even though everyone is there. 85% black and 11% white in a school with 4500 kids makes it hard to notice certain groups of people gone.

Lots of angry, smelly white commies trying to stage a walkout at school and calling for an overthrow of the government, and threatening another student with bodily harm for speaking out in a respectful mannor against their rhetoric. A lot of hispanic kids showed up the little socialist gathering, took all the free food they were offering and laughed at them.
