The Bush/Katrina question is the big trick. There are two pitfalls: Being irrational, and being bland. You are allowed to have a strong opinion, so long as it doesn't come off as irrational (Bush and Cheney arranged for the hurricane) and as long as you can explain WHY you hold your opinion. Being able to defend/explain your position is much more important than the substance of your position. The other trap is not to have an opinion. They want people who care. You don't want to come across as zealot-guy, but nor do you want to be the guy that either doesn't care or is too scaredy-pants to stand up for himself. If they ask you a political question, don't be afraid to take a stand. Just try to state your opinion in ways that might accidentally offend your interviewers (only a moron would think that the response was adequate ...) I have heard of "trap questions" about the resume - that's pretty bush-league, though. But honesty is your best friend here as well. The primary reason they are asking you about your resume is to get you talking, so help them out. (The other reason is that it gets really hard to think of new questions after the thirty-seventh candidate) Edited by Clark Kent |
