Topic: Useless replies to useless threads... Posted: 14 September 2005 at 12:55pm |
I'm sick of veteran forumers (not the 12 year olds you'd expect it from) that think they are moderators, trashing threads with their stupid critisizms like "don't double post"... "no such thing as snipers"... "use the search function...". All they are doing is boosting their post count with useless posts.
I'm sick of reading informative threads with all those useless replys put in by guys that are supposed to experienced forumers. I use many other forums (like Edmonds for automotive), some much busier than Tippmann's, and you just don't see it in other forums. It is completely obnoxious and juvenile.

yeah, because you've never done it. the ones we say "don't double post" to are the ones who double post. they haven't read the stickies, so we notify them that they shouldn't do it again. most of the time they acknowledge it. we don't think we're moderators, we are just helping them out a bit.

Most of this is caused by the "12 year olds"-no effense. And when we say "don't double post: we are not being mean; we are actually trying to help them become a better forumer.
Edit: And most of us veteran forumers could care less what our post counts are (we post to help people, not to boost our post count). Me being one of them.

You know, sometimes it gets a little tedious responding to "what barrel
should I get for my gun" 5 different times in one day. New people
should learn to use the search button. Go ahead and count how many
"what barrel should I get threads" that have been made in the past
week, or even the past month.
Oh, and this should be in thoughts and opinions.
Here's shmuck #1.

lol, i was going to say that but i didn't want to be a quack.
-edit- 13 barrel topics in the past month, and that's only in np. i hate to think how many are in the other forums combined.
-edit- that was only topics containg "what barrel" in the name. think of all the other topics called j n j or lapco bigshot or whatever.

So ignore them and move on to a thread you care about...

but then we wouldn't be helping them now would we? we tell them to search because it contains helpful information while acknowleging them of a search function. if we ignored them, it would make this forum unhelpful. This should be in T&O (shmuck #2)

Who uses T&O? This post would get no attention there. It is the newbies that need to be warned about the flaming veterans...
I'm not saying you should ignore them. If you don't feel like answering the repeats don't. But they don't have enter all the obnoxious crap either. Just pass on by if you can't contribute productively is all I'm saying.

I wouldn't consider that saying "don't double post" or "search" is flaming.

So your trying to turn the new forumers against the older forumers. Real nice.
And T&O is alwasy active. I think you need to check yourself before you make too many wrong assumptions.

If all the "flaming veterns" just ignored them, none of these posts in
question would get answered. Then where would they be? All these
unanswered questions with nobody to talk to. Wouldn't be a very
friendly place now would it?
I just like any form of hotpockets. I'll eat them all.

If you would have searched, this has been done many times.....and has had no effect whatsoever.
Its alot easier to tell the person to search, than to retype the information you've already typed before time and time again.

I can understand where you are coming from, but look at it from our point of view. We aren't Tippmann Techs, sitting around to answer people's questions. We are just a bunch of people from all over who are willing to help new players or anyone who has trouble, looking for advice, or just looking for a place to hang out. This new players forum typically gets the same questions over and over. If we just answer them every time, we get sick of answering them, and stop. Now who will answer the question?
Furthermore, sometimes someone will go through the trouble of answering the question with a lengthy, thorough answer, complete with all the theory that answers the question. When that answer gets pushed back to page 2, does that make that post obsolete? No, and if no one will ever bother to take two seconds to search, the answers here will revert to basic drivel, because no one will waste their time to write an answer that no one will read.
