Seriously, all it is is methane gas that floats around up there (6 billion people farting) and gathers, and when a spark gets up there, it ignites in the "Aurora Borealis".

That's why its called the northern lights. Ever looked at a globe? Becasue gas rises, and the north is at the top of the world... all the methane farts gather there, and when a Russian missile passes by (yes they are bombing us here in Canada, but I bet your teacher never told you that) it ignites.
