I don't think it's the gun that was really the problem..more like alcohol. It might work to argue that alcohol causes more problems than guns do in this country.

I don't think so. It was a bad situation altogether. BUT the guy had the
gun in his car before he got to the party, so the problem started even
earlier than the party.

True..but I'm talking about American society as a whole.  I should probably look for statistics, but it may very well be possible that more people have died due to alcohol related incidents than gun related incidents. I could easily be wrong however.

Who knows, depending on which study you look at and who did the study
and what they're trying to use the study for. Of course there's problems
with our society, but where do you start to change it. They're always
trying to come up with a solution, but then ten more problems will pop
up. What you view as a problem, others will look at as great. How do you
satisfy a society of different people?

There is nothing wrong with a gun. It's just how people use it that gives weapons a bad reputation.
Seriously, the gun range is a fun place to go on weekends. Nothing like squeezing off a few rounds into a bowling pin or something. I want a handgun, not so i can carry it around, but for shooting at the range. Same with rifles. Carrying guns around is a bad idea no matter who you are, even cops. All those situations where lethal force was used but not needed could have been prevented had they not had guns. Then on the flip side it makes them more defenceless...

Complicated stuff...

I think this worked out for everyone. The dead guy doesnt have to worry about dying of lung cancer and the shooter doesnt have to worry about getting a job or making car payments anymore.

I love stories with happy endings.

Wow...

I've had a loaded shotgun aimed at me before; not a pleasant situation. I don't think I EVER would have provoked the person to really fire...

Even so, sorry to hear about that.

Unless I misread, this person was NOT allowed to have a firearm.... It was illegal.

On the flip side, what do you think would have happened if both parties had had firearms?

Wouldn't it be murder 2 because there was no planning? Plus, it was provoked. Finally, murder 2 does not carry the death penalty.

Very true statement, but if a tree falls in the middle of nowhere, would the guy hear it and shoot him in the chest on accident?

No idea.  I have no clue what all that murder 1 and 2 stuff is, but that is what was in the newspaper.

I was also wondering, since it was provoked, can't he get off alteast a little easier?  I mean, the kid basicly told him to shoot him.

That sucks. Guns and alcohol are not a good match. A lesson has been learned here.
