Power Mac G5 1.8GHz Dual Processor 256MB RAM 80GB hard drive
for $2000 or Power Mac G5 1.8GHz processor 256MB RAM 80GB hard drive + 2gb ram upgrade for $2000 So basically, is it better to max out the ram, or to have dual processors? I'm just looking around at a computer for college, so I've got quite some time yet before I decide. Call me paintballwizard for now on, folks. |

I would strongly suggest atleast 512mb of ram, but the dual CPU is intriguing.

Yea I don't know anything about computers, except 'more the merrier' seems to be a good motto.

Macs suck. I have a HP and it is great. It has 512MB and it is fast.

Both seem very pricey, that's why poor old me sticks with PC's. If I could afford Mac's I'd get one. Dual-Processor sounds better, and just get 512 ram. |

Got the right idea here-especially because if you want to play any good games, you'll have to get a Windows emulator though. Having a dual-processor is nifty, but not necessarily any better for what you're doing. If you've got the cash for a Mac, I'd suggest one, they are just overall much nicer than PCs. Check out their student discount program as well. My friend got his Powerbook for half price, and an Ipod with it for another $60. ![]() Edited by Pariel |

Heh, whatever happened to him? Go with dual if you're using programs with SMP support (you most likely won't) or if you do a ton of resource consuming programs at once (again most likely not). Otherwise, you are sacrificing RAM for something you probably won't need. Dual processors don't offer anything over single processors unless you demand a lot of your computer. Edited by Variable |
