First off, the only reason the mac platform doesnt have as many games is because people dont think it has as many games. *ahem* http://www.aspyr.com/ http://www.macsoftgames.com/ Most major games are released on mac fairly quickly. Some delay a bit (Battlefield 1942 finally got ported), and some come out on hybrid CDs that work on mac and pc (id software and blizzard almost always do this). I guess ill give a lesson in game porting here for everyone. A jpeg is a jpeg, an mpeg is an mpeg, no matter if it is stored on a mac or a pc. This means that the actual "stuff" that makes up a game is absolutely the same on any platform. All a company has to do is write a slightly changed version of the game engine designed to render on OpenGL instead of directx, and theyve got themselves a mac and linux port. Thats all there is to it. One of the other problems is macs generally dont have quite as good of graphics cards, since it takes time to build a card compatible with the macs chipset. However apple is bring out the geforce 6800 ultra in a couple months soo..... As for "software support" im lost as to what you mean. I mean, ive got the best video editing software, the best DVD authoring software, i play games on here, and run a PHP/MySQL equipped Apache webserver on here. |

i have a AMD Desktop PC, and an Apple Powerbook G3, i like the apple better even though it's only 400mhz compared to 1ghz, the reliability and simpilicity make up for the speed, I've been tryin to get my parents to see the light and get either an iMac or PowerMac G4/G5 for the family desktop but they're afraid of compatiblity isuses with the PC's at their offices. |
