how exactly does the X-chamber help your gun? is it just for looks or does it somehow make your gun better in some way

It increases the area/distance that Co2 has to travel to reach the valve. Which means liquid Co2 has a better chance of becoming gaseous Co2 by having more room to expand. Liquid Co2 can damage internals and cause velocity spikes. So expansion chambers will help Co2 in being more consistent.

oh so it gets more out of a tank of CO2 than it normally would and keeps it from damaging the internals. thanks alot man

It gives C02 more room to expand and it traps liquid C02 from entering the gun.
