TIPPMANN INTRODUCES FREE WAY TO PLAY

10/21/2008

New program to provide free $20 gas card to those purchasing 98 Custom markers

BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. – To encourage more play at paintball fields and stimulate retail sales, Tippmann is planning to ease the pain at the pump for those who purchase a new 98 Custom paintball marker. Tippmann’s Free Way to Play promotion is a mail-in offer that will provide a $20 gas card to anyone purchasing a qualified 98 Custom or Custom Pro marker. The promotion will be launched Nov. 1, 2008 at more than 4,000 paintball stores, retailers and fields throughout the United States and Canada. It will run through Jan. 15, 2009.

When talking to players, they routinely mention the high price of gasoline as one of the reasons they may not be playing paintball as often as they’d like to, said Patrick Ehren, vice president of sales and marketing for Tippmann Sports. We recognized an opportunity to help – and launched this promotion as part of Tippmann’s ongoing efforts to reach out to newer players and make it easy and affordable for everyone to stay active in the game.

For retailers, there will be a variety of promotional materials available from Tippmann to help build awareness of the program, including posters, shelf cards and shelf danglers. Much like previous promotions, Tippmann will handle distribution of the gas cards and other details to make retail implementation as hassle free as possible.

Just about everyone who plays paintball needs to jump in the car to pick up friends or get to the local field, so we certainly believe this promotion has mass appeal, Ehren said. We anticipate this serving as a nice incentive for newer players who want to buy their own marker – as well as the casual player who may have rented or borrowed a marker in the past – but have been delaying the purchase.
